Scrum Theory & Values

• Scrum is very lean, and it is supposed to remain lean. Do not make it complex.

• Because it is very lean already, there is not much room to tailor it further. To get the best out of scrum, one must implement it holistically.

• Scrum promotes lean thinking. How can we eliminate non value adding work? is the main question asked or posed by the scrum team and stakeholders continuously.

• Scrum is based on empiricism. Many think that agile is adhoc. Actually it is very disciplined and everything is driven by numbers.

• Scrum employs an iterative and incremental approach.

• Scrum employs groups of people who has the necessary skills or can acquire it quickly

• Scrum is based on four formal events for inspection and adaptation which facilitates the scum pillars of;

  • Transparency – In scrum, everything is visible to everybody during the development process.

  • Inspection– Scrum artifacts and progress are continuously inspected.

  • Adaptation – The Scrum teams adapts itself continuously as and when it detects anything new by way of priority changes, variation from ideal etc. Teams must be empowered to self organize and adapt.

• Scrum values – The success of scrum depends on how well the team works based on the four values of;

  • Commitment

  • Focus

  • Openness

  • Respect

  • Courage

• When these values are enacted by the team, then transparency, inspection and adaptation become meaningful and build trust. Scrum becomes live.
